I was recently approached by a Promotions Executive representing Jacamo and I was asked if I would like to review their range of Christmas jumpers. At first, I was reluctant because of my preconceived ideas of the brand. My first thought was that even though I can sometimes wear an XXL (Thank you very much Zara!!) I was no where big enough to shop at Jacamo. I’ve always thought that they were solely there to cater for the exceptionally larger gentleman. Or at least that’s the sole takeaway that I have gleaned from the TV adverts I have seen. I decided to have a look at the website and peruse the Christmas jumpers anyway, just in case there was something that tickled my fancy, or didn’t make me look like one of those idiots wearing a Christmas jumper knitted by his nan and sits at a comfortable 5 sizes too big. I’ve got to admit, I was really pleasantly surprised.
As I’ve said, I thought it catered solely for the larger chap with clothes ranges starting at XXL, but this couldn’t be farther from the truth. They do cater for larger sizes, but not at the expense of smaller sizes. A random selection of clothing showed that their sizes start at S and then go all the way up to 5XL. So really there isn’t anyone that could’t buy from them. They have specialist selections for the more oddly shaped bloke meaning that no matter your size or shape, you could find something. The other thing that surprised me, was the sheer number of brands that you can buy from the website. I, for some reason, thought that they were a clothing brand in their own right and that was all they sold, but the range you can buy from is quite lengthy: Ben Sherman, French Connection, and Lacoste just to name a few. It doesn’t even stop at clothing either. You can use your account to shop for home electricals, gifts, and kids stuff too using their external links tabs at the top of the page.
After looking at the website, I agreed to take part and I was looking forward to receiving my Christmas jumpers. Outwardly, I’m very much a Bah Humbug! kind of guy, but inwardly my inner child gets a little excited and I’m secretly jealous of those families getting together wearing matching Christmas jumpers and creating their own Christmas card using a photo of them all sat by a fire place, but I digress. I chose the snowman jumper and the reindeer jumper for me and my friend George.
I’m currently working in Germany, and therefore to avoid ridiculous international shipping costs, I need to choose from a site that delivers to British Forces Post Offices. Jacamo does deliver to BFPO, but when making an order it’s not an easy process to get this across. The default lines of the address do not cater for BFPO addresses, but thankfully they are free text entry so you can type it in full. So many websites are limited by drop down menus for county, country or town, that it becomes impossible to shop online and you have to phone customer services to clarify the issue. With the sheer number of Forces personnel who still want to buy from UK brands, I feel that online retailers are missing a trick by making it so difficult to do so.
As luck would have it, I came back to the UK temporarily and had the jumpers sent to my home address in England. I was told they would be shipped out soon and the very next morning they landed on the door step. Fast! I was really happy with my jumper. The material wasn’t itchy, it was flexible and was a perfect fit. Sometimes jumpers can be too restrictive around the neck line and you have to keep adjusting yourself just so that you can breathe, but this was really comfortable. I had the reindeer jumper in a large. I’m a 42/44 inch chest and this fitted me perfectly. I tried on the snowman jumper that I had ordered for George, which was an XL, and it was just as comfortable as mine. I took the jumpers back to Germany, invited George out for a drink in our cellar bar and gave him his jumper. He was really happy. He thought it was warm and comfortable, but thought it was a little small in the arm, but then he is part gorilla.
I apologise for the quality of the photos, the lighting in the cellar bar is horrible! We had more than one odd look from people clearly thinking we had gone mad wearing Christmas jumpers in October, but we were enjoying ourselves so who cares.
Why not go to their website and have a look, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised too. Go visit www.jacamo.co.uk
